This resource includes

  • Lesson plan instructions
  • Student graphic organizer (2 versions)
  • Class summary posters (2 versions)

✨How This Activity Works✨

  1. Print one copy of the brainstorm graphic organizer per team or per student.
  2. Give students time to discuss and write down their ideas. (Notice & Wonder)
  3. Have students summarize their ideas into one word.
  4. I had hung the class summary posters around the room on my whiteboards. Using that one word, team members added it to the board around the poster.
  5. After, I went around discussing with the class what the academic word for each transformation was. I linked their discoveries to the academic term which helps provide ownership of the learning.

How can you use this?

“My students always struggle with the transformation unit and this was the perfect introduction.” -Math with Ms Black

“I used this to help introduce transformations to my math intervention students. It helped open up lots of good math talk and allowed students to realize how much vocabulary they already knew about transformations.” – Math in Room 200
