The guided notes starts off by highlighting the new academic vocabulary specific to exponent rules in algebra. With each of the three rules covered, there are 3 parts. The first portion is the written description of the rule and the shortcut. The second section shows why the rule works. It is a worked out example showcasing the rule. This allows students to see how it works and why the shortcut works. And the last section is practice for students. In this section, students are given two practice problems using the same numbers. By doing this, it allows for students to see the difference between the rules.
