Talking in the Classroom

I’m Mona, a middle school math teacher & former math hater, turned woman on a mission to empower students & teachers to love and understand math. Everything changed for me when I learned how to build a classroom community that centered on my students’ needs, while holding high expectations and doing rigorous math with joy.

Hi, I’m Kristen, aka Mrs. Damman from @Dammansalgebraroom. I believe that 100% student participation is needed to ensure students are fully understanding the mathematical content. Therefore, with a combination of teaching strategies, such as peer teaching and hands-on learning, my students become active participants and engage in math conversations in my algebra classroom

Oh hey, Kayla here from @northdakotateaching! Although my passion for math runs deep, nothing prepared me for teaching fact fluency, conceptual understanding, or helping students use math vocabulary effortlessly. That was, until I began using daily number talks in my middle school classroom. It truly was a total 180! I absolutely cannot wait to share with you how I began implementing daily number talks into my middle school classroom and how it changed the game for me!

Classroom Structures

Hi friend! I am Johanna from @misskuiper. Math is my passion, but I know not everyone shares that attitude…yet. I help math teachers guide their students to mastery, no matter their academic ability. Through this process, your students will understand math at deeper level, make real world math connections, and learn to love math. Not convinced yet? Check out my session because I guarantee your mind will be blown.

Hi, I’m Jamie from @jamiemillermath! I have experience teaching grades 3-7 but seventh grade math might just be my favorite. My teaching style is fun, interactive, and hands-on. I am passionate about using a math workshop model to individualize instruction and reach all learners. I also believe in the power of movement in the math classroom and love getting my students up and moving while learning.

Hey, hey I’m Jackie from @teachinginroom5! I remember school being a struggle during the upper elementary and middle school years. That’s why I knew I wanted to be the type of math teacher that I needed when I was a kid. My main goal is to make ALL kids believe that they can do math while making it as engaging as possible. Bonus points if I can make it colorful with some colorful highlighting along the way!

Pieces of the Math Classroom

Hi, I am Eva from Mrs. Padilla’s Math Class. I’ve always had a passion for teaching. I never realized how much I would have loved being a middle school teacher until I was actually in the classroom! It is rewarding to see my students learn and grow, and seeing them flourish in my math classroom. I love creating a positive, fun and rigorous environment where students can be challenged and at the same time show them that math is fun and relevant to their lives.

I’m Brooklyn from @brooklynsbrightest, a former elementary teacher turned middle school math teacher. I love to show students math can be fun, math is relevant, and that there is something everyone is good at when it comes to math. Engagement is non-negotiable for me because I know if I am bored, so are my students! Utilizing effective and engaging lessons for middle school math has become a passion of mine and I am excited to share that with you all.

Hey friends! I’m Kelly from @MathematicallyEnthused. I am a “reformed math struggler” because middle school Kelly would have never believed the passion and understandings adult Kelly has for all things math! I am enthused about making math accessible, fun, and engaging for my students, to foster their ability to make powerful connections and experience deep understanding from content to positive, real-life experiences.
